RFID Smart Library Self Checkout Kiosk

Date:2024-05-30

Using the non-contact and read-write characteristics of RFID, self-service borrowing and returning of books can be realized through RFID library self checkout kiosks. With automatic sorting equipment, it can also realize automatic shelving of books and create an unmanned automatic access library.

RFID self checkout kiosks is an intelligent device that can sense, identify and borrow and return books with RFID tags. It is equipped with a touch screen or a simple human-computer interaction interface and a graphical interface. It is connected to the library automation system data through protocols or other networks and special interfaces. Readers can borrow and return books and materials in the library by themselves; it helps libraries to increase the circulation rate of books and simplify the borrowing and returning process under limited human resources, so that readers can quickly and accurately complete borrowing and returning, thereby improving the work efficiency and service quality of library practitioners.

RFID self checkout kiosks are divided into two categories: high frequency and ultra-high frequency. At present, corresponding self-service borrowing and returning equipment has been developed for different age groups, including vertical self checkout kiosks, desktop self checkout kiosks, K12 vertical self checkout kiosks, and children's self checkout kiosks. The first two are mainly used in public libraries, government and enterprise institutions and university libraries, and the latter two are suitable for K12 campus libraries and children's libraries respectively. The reader card and book identification area use non-contact RFID reading and writing modules, which support multiple identity recognition. The book identification area can read 10-15 books at a time.

The University of Washington Library in the United States, built in the 20th century, uses large automatic machinery (coordinated with large conveyor belts in the building) to sort and transport documents to be put on the shelves. Shenzhen Library uses electric drive and equipped with on-board computers and RFID readers to automatically address and transport intelligent book carts; students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University have developed a fully automated "book storage and retri system" funded by Siemens, making the entire borrowing and returning process completely automatic and only takes 30 seconds to 1 minute.
